Chapter 3 - The Hostage Situation

Six men in tactical gear poured out of the black SUVs, holding heavy firearms at their sides.
They completely surrounded the ambulance, trapping the paramedics and my daughter inside.
Julian cradled his injured wrist, laughing through the pain as he walked toward the armed men.
He revealed that these were not ordinary security guards, but mercenaries hired with the eight million dollars he had stolen.
My father instinctively stepped in front of me, shielding my body from the terrifying display of force.
Julian demanded that Mr. Sterling hand over the original trust documents immediately.
The attorney refused, stating that the documents were safely stored in a federal bank vault.
Julian’s smile vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating glare.
He ordered his mercenaries to drag the paramedics out of the ambulance and leave Lily alone in the back.
I screamed and tried to run toward the vehicle, but a massive guard grabbed my shoulders and threw me to the ground.
My father tried to fight back, but another guard struck him in the stomach with the butt of a rifle.
Agnes walked slowly down the front steps, stepping carefully to avoid dirtying her expensive silver gown.
She looked down at me with absolute disgust, claiming I had forced them to take these extreme measures.
She admitted that she had poisoned Lily with a slow-acting toxin to ensure I would be desperate enough to sign anything.
I felt a sickening wave of horror wash over me as I realized the depths of their cruelty.
Julian told me I had exactly one hour to call the bank manager and authorize the transfer of the trust.
If I refused, they would simply wait for the poison to finish its job, and Julian would claim I neglected my sick child.
He dragged me back into the mansion by my hair, locking me inside his soundproof study.
I frantically searched the room for a landline or a hidden weapon, but the space was entirely bare.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany bookshelf in the corner of the room began to click softly.

The entire shelf slowly swung open, revealing a dark, narrow passageway hidden behind the wall.
Our terrified maid, Maria, peeked her head out from the darkness, holding a small flashlight and a ringing cell phone.
