Chapter 8 - The Unlikely Alliance

I unfolded the thick, heavily redacted document while keeping a very careful eye on the silver gun in her hand.
The paper was a contract Daniel had secretly arranged with a notorious private military contractor operating out of Eastern Europe.
The contract clearly outlined a hit order on a woman matching Victoria's exact description, scheduled to be executed immediately after the funds cleared.
Victoria admitted that she had intercepted the document hours ago, realizing that Daniel intended to keep the entire fifty million dollars for himself.
She looked at me with cold, calculating eyes, suggesting that we both had a vested interest in seeing Daniel completely destroyed tonight.
I slowly realized that this ruthless, dangerous woman was offering me a temporary, highly unstable truce.
I told Victoria that I would only help her trap Daniel if she agreed to leave Marcus alive and walk away from my family's money forever.
Victoria laughed bitterly, agreeing that seeing Daniel locked in a federal prison was worth far more than the stolen millions.
She ordered her men to stand down and tossed a heavy set of car keys toward my chest.
We left Marcus safely hidden in the bunker and drove Victoria's armored vehicle back toward my sprawling estate.

We burst through the front doors of the mansion, fully prepared to catch Daniel in the act of routing the money.
Instead, we found Daniel standing in the center of the foyer, holding a massive shotgun while Patricia held a gasoline canister over the expensive rugs.
