Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Bleeding

The revelation that Melissa was a corporate spy hit my father like a physical blow.
Garrett had not just broken my heart; he had orchestrated a massive heist that could bankrupt our entire family legacy.
"They used Ethan's death as a distraction," my father realized, his voice trembling with a mixture of grief and pure fury.
"He knew we would be at the hospital all night, leaving his executive access completely unmonitored."
I wiped the tears from my eyes, realizing that crying would not save my son or my family.
"What did they steal?" I asked, looking at the complex data logs on the screen.
"They stole the blueprints for a revolutionary pediatric heart valve we were preparing to patent," my father explained.
The cruel irony of the stolen project made my blood run completely cold.
Sterling Global had been developing that specific medical technology to save children just like my sweet Ethan.
My father immediately ordered a massive board meeting to lock down the remaining company assets.
I refused to stay behind in the penthouse, choosing instead to put on my darkest mourning suit and follow him into the war zone.
When we arrived at the towering glass headquarters, the boardroom was already in a state of absolute panic.
Garrett was sitting at the end of the long mahogany table, flanked by high-powered corporate lawyers.
"You have no right to be in this building," my father roared, pointing a shaking finger at his former son-in-law.
Garrett simply smiled, adjusting his expensive silk tie with terrifying calmness.
"Actually, William, I represent Apex Medical now, and we own a controlling interest in your debt," Garrett sneered.
He slid a thick folder across the table, filled with forged financial documents and leveraged buyouts.
I glared at him, absolutely disgusted by the monster I had slept next to for six years.
While my father argued with the screaming board members, I quietly slipped Garrett's forgotten company iPad from his open briefcase.
I sneaked into an empty office down the hall and bypassed his simple passcode, searching desperately for anything I could use against him.
In a hidden, encrypted folder labeled 'Medical Records', I found a series of emails between Garrett and Dr. Michael Harris.
The emails were dated four months ago.

They explicitly detailed a guaranteed experimental treatment that could have saved Ethan's life.
But Garrett had paid the doctor two million dollars to completely hide the treatment from me, ensuring Ethan would not survive long enough to complicate the upcoming corporate merger.
