Chapter 5 - The Desperate Escape

The deafening sound of the gunshots caused Lily to stir incredibly weakly in her small hospital bed.

I quickly covered her small ears and quietly whispered that everything was going to be perfectly fine.

Marcus realized our defensive position in the trapped hospital room was completely and entirely compromised.

He firmly told me we had exactly three minutes to escape before the heavily armed men returned to breach the door.

My brother aggressively moved a heavy medical supply cart and completely shattered the large exterior glass window.

The cool night air rushed violently into the room, bringing the distant sound of heavily blaring police sirens.

We were currently on the second floor, directly above a flat roof that completely covered the emergency ambulance bay.

Marcus carefully picked up Lily, wrapping her fragile body safely in a thick thermal hospital blanket.

He carefully climbed through the shattered window frame and safely dropped onto the flat tar roof directly below.

I climbed out right behind him, severely cutting my hand on a large piece of jagged broken glass.

I completely ignored the sharp, radiating pain and scrambled frantically across the roof toward the rusty fire escape.

We carefully descended the metal stairs just as a massive, fiery explosion rocked the second-floor hospital room.

The ruthless assassins had thrown a highly explosive device directly into the room we had just successfully evacuated.

Hot debris rained down dangerously around us as we finally reached the dark pavement of the back alleyway.

Marcus rapidly led us to an unmarked black SUV he had smartly parked behind the hospital for absolute emergencies.

He securely buckled Lily into the back seat and strictly ordered me to keep my head completely down.

My brother slammed his foot on the gas pedal, and we tore violently out of the alley onto the main street.

I finally allowed myself to breathe, foolishly believing we had successfully escaped the immediate physical danger.

I looked at the glowing dashboard navigation screen to see exactly where Marcus was securely taking us to hide.

The destination address glowing brightly on the GPS screen belonged exactly to my mother-in-law's private estate.

I screamed loudly at Marcus, desperately asking him why he was driving us directly into the dangerous lion's den.

My brother coldly locked all the car doors and firmly told me it was time to end this entire war tonight.
