Chapter 8 - The Hidden Enemy

I stared completely horrified at the highly glowing screen of my heavily encrypted burner phone.
The anonymous message absolutely proved that this massive conspiracy went significantly deeper than Daniel's pathetic greed.
Thomas immediately noticed the sheer panic completely washing over my face and entirely stepped incredibly close to my side.
"Rachel, what exactly is entirely wrong?" Thomas asked, his deep voice laced with intense concern.
I silently handed him the small digital device, entirely allowing him to rapidly read the incredibly chilling threat.
"Someone entirely else originally orchestrated the terrifying kidnapping of your children, Thomas," I whispered intensely.
"Daniel and Sarah were completely just the incredibly foolish pawns highly useful for a much larger, completely invisible game."
Thomas’s jaw clenched entirely tightly as a highly dark, fiercely protective fury completely filled his intense eyes.
We immediately climbed completely into the heavily armored SUV and strictly instructed the private driver to speed directly toward Thomas's secure estate.
I completely refused to ever let Brooke out of my sight, entirely wrapping a highly protective arm tightly around the trembling teenager.
As we drove rapidly through the incredibly dark city streets, I quickly opened my specialized tactical laptop to actively trace the anonymous message.
My fingers flew entirely aggressively across the illuminated keyboard as I rapidly bypassed dozens of highly complex digital firewalls.
"The highly encrypted signal is heavily bouncing completely off a localized cell tower directly near your main construction headquarters," I announced quickly.
Thomas completely frowned, rapidly pulling his own secure phone completely from his tailored suit jacket.
"My massive corporate headquarters is strictly supposed to be completely locked down entirely for the night," Thomas stated firmly.
He quickly dialed his elite head of corporate security, but the secure line entirely rang completely unanswered.
"The entire digital security grid at the main office has been completely taken offline entirely," Thomas realized with absolute dread.
I quickly reached under my leather seat and completely pulled out my highly customized, fully loaded tactical sidearm from my hidden lockbox.
"Driver, immediately reroute us completely directly to the Whitaker Construction main headquarters," I commanded fiercely.
Brooke grabbed my heavy jacket tightly, entirely begging me to completely stay entirely safe inside the armored car.
"I absolutely have to entirely finish this completely tonight, Brooke, or we will completely never be entirely safe," I promised her softly.
We rapidly arrived at the entirely towering, completely darkened glass skyscraper located entirely in the absolute center of the quiet financial district.
I stepped highly confidently entirely out of the vehicle, expertly gripping my heavy weapon as Thomas entirely completely followed closely behind me.
We silently slipped entirely through the completely compromised side loading dock, expertly navigating the completely pitch-black corporate hallways.
As we cautiously approached the massive executive boardroom, a highly bright light entirely flickered on completely from the absolute inside.

I forcefully kicked the heavy wooden doors completely wide open, perfectly aiming my tactical weapon entirely directly into the massive room.
Sitting completely casually in Thomas’s enormous leather chair was Walter Mercer, entirely holding a highly explosive detonator firmly in his trembling hand.
