Chapter 4 - The Standoff

The collective, highly terrified scream in the dining room was absolutely deafening.
Elaine entirely fainted, sliding gracefully and silently onto the expensive hardwood floor.
Walter wildly threw his hands in the air, desperately begging his erratic son to lower the highly deadly weapon.
Daniel’s hands were shaking incredibly violently as he pointed the dark handgun directly at my beating heart.
Brooke covered her mouth in pure, undeniable terror, backing very slowly into the kitchen doorway.
"Dad, please stop, you are completely scaring me!" Brooke cried out hysterically.
Daniel completely ignored his crying daughter, his bloodshot eyes entirely focused entirely on my perfectly calm face.
"You completely ruined my entire life tonight, Rachel," he practically spat the venomous words directly at me.
I did not even slightly flinch at the terrifying sight of the raised weapon.
In my dangerous line of work, I had confidently stared down heavily armed cartel members and professional mercenaries.
A desperate, highly cowardly man holding a gun he barely knew how to operate absolutely did not terrify me.
"Daniel, the weapon's safety is still actively engaged," I pointed out in a flat, entirely bored tone.
Daniel frantically looked down at the heavy weapon in sheer, pathetic confusion.
In that incredibly brief fraction of a second, I moved with explosive, highly trained speed.
I aggressively grabbed his wrist with my left hand, twisting it sharply upward while driving my right palm directly into his throat.
He choked violently, dropping the heavy gun instantly as it clattered incredibly loudly onto the polished floorboards.
Thomas expertly kicked the dangerous weapon far under the heavy oak dining table.
I shoved Daniel backward with immense force, causing him to completely trip over the entryway rug and fall heavily onto his back.
"You are absolutely, undeniably pathetic," I told him, looking down at his gasping, pathetic form.
Thomas immediately pulled out his secure phone and dialed the local chief of police directly.
"Yes, Chief, we have a highly dangerous armed assault currently in progress at the Mercer residence," Thomas reported calmly.
Daniel desperately scrambled to his feet, painfully holding his deeply bruised throat.
"You absolutely cannot prove anything, it is purely my word against yours!" Daniel rasped frantically.
"There are exactly twelve highly credible witnesses in this room who just clearly watched you draw a deadly firearm," Walter said, finally turning completely against his own son.
Daniel looked wildly around the room, entirely realizing that his wealthy family was fully abandoning him to save their own social reputations.
He looked desperately at the front door, clearly calculating his highly unlikely odds of escaping completely into the snowy night.
"Brooke, grab your winter coat, we are absolutely leaving right now," Daniel commanded his terrified daughter.
Brooke aggressively shook her head, hot tears streaming rapidly down her pale cheeks.
"I absolutely hate you," Brooke whispered with intense, pure venom.
Daniel snarled aggressively, rushing desperately toward the kitchen door to entirely escape through the back alley before the police arrived.
Before he could even reach the brass handle, the heavy kitchen door violently swung wide open from the outside.
A stunningly beautiful woman wearing a highly luxurious fur coat stepped gracefully into the warm house.

She looked exactly like Brooke, only twenty years older and significantly colder.
"Going somewhere in a terrible hurry, Danny?" his supposedly missing ex-wife Sarah asked with a highly wicked smirk.
