Chapter 7 - The Interrogation

The incredibly bright fluorescent lights of the police interrogation room buzzed highly loudly above my tired head.

I sat perfectly still in the incredibly uncomfortable metal chair, completely refusing to answer any of the hostile detective's aggressive questions.

My wrists were highly bruised from the completely tight steel handcuffs, but my mind was entirely sharp and fiercely focused.

The angry detective slammed a massive, heavy stack of printed emails violently onto the metal table.

"We have heavily encrypted messages originating directly from your personal, secure IP address, Mrs. Mercer," the detective growled.

"They clearly detail exactly how much you were heavily planning to pay the dangerous mercenaries who completely took the Whitaker children."

I simply stared completely blankly at the wall, entirely utilizing my extensive counter-interrogation training.

I knew absolutely perfectly that Daniel and Sarah had completely hired highly sophisticated hackers on their stolen payroll.

They had expertly used my private home network while I was actively out in the dangerous field actually saving those innocent kids.

After three highly agonizing hours of completely endless questioning, the heavy metal door suddenly clicked and opened entirely wide.

Thomas Whitaker walked highly confidently into the completely small room, accompanied by an incredibly sharp man wearing a three-piece suit.

"This entirely ridiculous, completely illegal interview is entirely over, Detective," the sharp lawyer announced incredibly loudly.

The detective quickly stood up, visibly sweating heavily under Thomas's intense, highly intimidating glare.

"Mr. Whitaker, she is our absolute prime suspect in the terrifying, highly coordinated kidnapping of your own children!" the detective argued nervously.

Thomas completely ignored the foolish man and aggressively placed a highly official legal document directly onto the metal table.

"This is a legally signed confession from the actual lead hacker who entirely forged the completely fake digital IP trail," Thomas stated coldly.

"My private investigators successfully tracked him down in Europe exactly twenty minutes ago, and he completely flipped heavily on Daniel Mercer."

The completely stunned detective rapidly read the official document, his face turning an incredibly bright shade of embarrassed red.

"Release her tight restraints entirely immediately," Thomas commanded with a terrifying, entirely unyielding authority.

The completely defeated detective quickly unlocked my highly painful handcuffs and quietly scrambled entirely out of the room.

I rubbed my deeply sore wrists, looking entirely gratefully at the highly powerful billionaire who had just completely saved my absolute freedom.

"Thank you so much, Thomas," I said quietly, feeling completely exhausted.

"You saved my entire world, Rachel, clearing your highly honorable name was the absolute least I could completely do," Thomas replied warmly.

He gently offered his incredibly strong hand and helped me securely completely to my feet.

"Daniel and Sarah’s massive financial assets have been completely frozen globally, and they are currently being entirely denied any bail," Thomas explained.

We walked highly confidently out of the police precinct, entirely ready to permanently put this horrific nightmare completely behind us.

Brooke was waiting anxiously entirely in Thomas's armored SUV, completely crying tears of sheer joy when she finally saw me walking freely.

But exactly as I opened the heavy car door, my personal, highly encrypted burner phone vibrated intensely in my jacket pocket.

I completely froze as I read the highly encrypted, completely anonymous text message entirely illuminating the small screen.

"Did you really entirely think the incredibly stupid husband was the actual, absolute mastermind behind all of this?"
