Chapter 9 - The Last Stand

Mark erupted into hysterical laughter at the sound of the empty chamber.

"You stupid bitch!" he roared, closing the distance between us.

I threw the useless gun at his face, but he easily swatted it away.

He raised the knife, aiming directly for my chest.

Suddenly, a heavy steel pipe swung out of the shadows, slamming viciously into the back of Mark’s skull.

Mark groaned, dropping the knife as he stumbled forward into the dirt.

Standing behind him, breathing heavily and holding the pipe, was my sister Chloe.

"Stay away from my sister!" Chloe screamed.

She had escaped the Romano safehouse and tracked the chaos to the docks.

Before I could even process my relief, a fleet of black SUVs surrounded the warehouse.

Vincent’s loyal men poured out of the vehicles, armed with automatic rifles.

The true power of the Moretti family had finally arrived.

Mark scrambled to his feet, wiping blood from his head as he realized he was completely surrounded.

Desperation flared in his eyes as he grabbed Chloe, pulling her in front of him as a human shield.

He pressed a military-grade grenade to her neck, his thumb resting on the pin.

"Back off!" Mark screamed, spitting blood onto the ground.

"I will blow us all to hell!"

Vincent forced himself to stand, refusing help from his soldiers.

Vincent raised a fresh gun with his injured arm, his aim perfectly steady despite the agonizing pain.

"Pull the pin, Mark," Vincent challenged him with chilling calmness.

"I dare you."
