Chapter 4 - The Inside Man

The glass slipped from my hand and shattered against the hardwood floor.
"Chloe," I gasped, feeling the room spin as panic consumed me.
My younger sister was the only family I had left in the world.
"Touch one hair on her head, Mark, and I will peel the skin from your bones," Vincent promised smoothly.
Mark chuckled, a disgusting sound that made my stomach churn.
"I want Lena and a safe flight out of the country in exchange for the girl."

I bit down on a leather strap while the doctor forcefully snapped my broken bone back into place.
The agonizing pain nearly made me pass out, but the thought of Chloe kept me awake.
Once my arm was secured in a heavy fiberglass cast, Vincent handed me a small pistol.
"Stay in this room with my top guard, Leo," Vincent instructed, pulling on a black tactical coat.
"I am going to get your sister back."
Vincent left the penthouse, leaving me alone with a massive, silent bodyguard.
I paced the floor, watching the city lights and praying for my sister's safety.
"You know, Mark offered me a lot of money to leave that side door unlocked," Leo suddenly said.

I froze, slowly turning to look at the trusted guard.
Leo was aiming his gun directly at my head, a greedy smile on his face.
