Chapter 8 - The Warehouse Showdown

Julian looked completely unhinged, his designer suit torn and his eyes wide with a manic, desperate energy.

Eleanor sobbed uncontrollably, begging her son to put the weapon down and surrender to the cartel.

Julian ignored her pleas and screamed at the cartel boss that the deal had officially changed.

He demanded that the cartel kill me and give him the flash drive, or he would execute his own mother right in front of them.

The cartel boss laughed loudly, completely amused by the absolute madness of Julian’s betrayal.

The boss told Julian that he did not care if Eleanor lived or died, because a mother's life meant nothing to a businessman.

Julian’s face twisted in absolute fury as he realized his ultimate bargaining chip was entirely worthless.

He racked the shotgun aggressively and aimed it down at me, deciding to just kill me and take the drive himself.

I did not flinch, because I knew exactly what was waiting in the darkness above him.

I loudly asked Julian if he really thought he was smart enough to outplay a forensic accountant and a cartel boss at the same time.

My voice echoed through the warehouse, giving my father the exact audio distraction he needed.

A massive pane of glass shattered on the roof as my father’s elite snipers opened fire simultaneously.

Three cartel mercenaries dropped to the concrete floor instantly, neutralized before they could even pull their triggers.

The warehouse erupted into absolute chaos as the remaining hitmen returned fire blindly into the dark rafters.

I sprinted across the open floor, diving behind a metal shipping crate as bullets sparked against the concrete.

I reached Chloe and desperately used a piece of broken glass to slice through the heavy zip ties binding her wrists.

She collapsed into my arms, weeping loudly as the gunfight raged violently all around us.

I dragged her toward the loading dock exit, staying incredibly low to avoid the deadly crossfire.

Julian screamed in rage from the catwalk, realizing that his grand plan was falling completely apart.

He abandoned his mother and ran down the metal stairs, determined to stop me from escaping with his money.

I shoved Chloe through the exit door and told her to run toward the security vehicles waiting in the alley.

I turned around to follow her, but Julian tackled me brutally from behind, sending us both crashing to the hard floor.

He pinned me down and wrapped his hands tightly around my throat, choking the life out of me.

He hissed that I had ruined his life, his wealth, and his perfect family.

I struggled to breathe, my vision growing dark as his grip tightened like a vice.

I desperately reached into my pocket and pulled out the sharp piece of broken glass I had used to cut Chloe's restraints.

May you like

I drove the glass deep into his thigh, forcing him to scream and release his grip on my neck.

I kicked him away and scrambled to my feet, sprinting toward the rusted metal stairs leading to the warehouse roof.
