Chapter 2 - The False Accusation

The flashing red and blue lights illuminated the living room through the sheer curtains.

Eleanor began to panic, grabbing her son’s arm and demanding to know what he had done.

Julian frantically ran his hands through his hair, his mind racing to find a way out of the trap.

He glared at me with absolute hatred, completely dropping his charming husband persona.

He hissed that I was making the biggest mistake of my miserable life.

My father stepped between us, shielding me with his broad shoulders.

Loud knocking echoed through the house as the police demanded entry.

I walked over and opened the heavy wooden door without a single ounce of hesitation.

Four uniformed officers and a plainclothes detective stepped into the foyer.

The lead detective introduced himself as Detective Harrison from the financial crimes division.

He looked at Julian and ordered the officers to place him under arrest for identity theft and wire fraud.

Eleanor shrieked and physically tried to push the officers away from her precious son.

Julian raised his hands in surrender, but a sickening smile slowly crept across his face.

He looked directly at Detective Harrison and completely changed his demeanor to play the victim.

Julian confidently stated that the police were arresting the wrong person.

He claimed that he knew nothing about the fraudulent transfers or the stolen identities.

He pointed a shaking finger at me and told the detective that I was a senior forensic accountant.

Julian argued that I was the only person in the house with the technical skills to forge those documents and hide the money.

Eleanor immediately caught on to his lie and loudly agreed, claiming I had been stealing from them for months.

Detective Harrison frowned and pulled a folded document from his jacket pocket.

He looked at me with deep suspicion and asked if I had access to Julian’s offshore business accounts.

I told the detective that I had never opened an offshore account in my entire life.

The detective unfolded the paper and held it up for my father and me to see.

It was a highly classified federal wire transfer authorization for three million dollars.

My exact signature was perfectly forged at the bottom of the document.

The detective pulled out a second pair of handcuffs and looked me in the eyes.

He announced that I was the primary suspect in a massive international money laundering ring.
