Chapter 10 - THE HORIZON

Five years later.

The Sterling family became a cautionary tale in New York high society. Arthur died in a minimum-security prison. Chloe and Eleanor served their sentences and emerged as social pariahs, completely bankrupt, forced to work minimum-wage retail jobs in a city they used to believe they owned.

David never recovered. Without his trust fund or his family's prestige to prop him up, his lack of ambition consumed him. He faded into obscurity, a bitter, lonely man who lost a devoted wife and a beautiful son because he was too weak to stand up to a bully.

As for us? We never went back to America.

I bought a small, beautiful property in Tuscany with my graphic design agency's profits. I expanded my business, hiring local artists, and built a life rooted in peace, respect, and unconditional love.

Leo was now eight years old. He spoke fluent Italian, played soccer with the village kids, and had a smile that could light up a room. He didn't remember the screaming, the insults, or the cold dining room of the Sterling estate. He only knew the warmth of the sun and a mother who fought the world to protect him.

We were sitting on the terrace of our home, eating fresh gelato, when Leo looked up at me.

"Mama, are we rich?" he asked innocently, looking at our beautiful home.

May you like

I smiled, pulling him into a hug, resting my chin on his head as I looked out at the rolling hills.

"We are, Leo," I whispered, holding him tight. "We are the richest people in the world."
