Chapter 4 - The Legal Weapon

The timeline of my entire life was violently accelerating.

I had less than a week before a baby was brought into the world and weaponized against me.

The next morning, I walked into the sleek, glass-walled office of Mr. Sterling.

He was the most ruthless, expensive divorce attorney in the city of Chicago.

I placed the photographs of the forged postnuptial agreement directly onto his polished desk.

I then handed him the bank statements proving Lukas had been hiding marital assets.

Sterling reviewed the documents with the cold, calculating precision of a shark smelling blood in the water.

He told me the forgery was sloppy, but proving it in court could take months of expensive litigation.

He needed a hard confession or undeniable proof before Tuesday, or Lukas could drag the legal battle out for years.

I asked him what would happen if I simply walked away and filed for a standard divorce.

Sterling shook his head, pulling up Lukas's corporate profile on his laptop.

He explained that Lukas's firm was currently finalizing a multi-million-dollar merger with a conservative European conglomerate.

Lukas was lined up for a massive executive payout, but the contract included a strict morality clause.

If Lukas was involved in a messy public scandal, the European board would terminate his contract instantly.

Lukas wasn't just hiding the baby to trap me; he was hiding it to secure his corporate fortune.

Sterling smiled sharply and said we had the perfect leverage to destroy him completely.

But before we could strike, Sterling's assistant rushed into the office with an urgent fax.

The assistant handed Sterling the paper, and his confident smile instantly vanished.

Lukas's shady lawyer had just filed an emergency injunction against me.

Lukas was accusing me of embezzling funds from our joint account and requesting my immediate removal from the marital home.
