Chapter 5 - The Confrontation
I stared at the man I had believed was dead for five agonizing years.
Kyle stepped further into the office, his cruel smirk widening into an ugly, triumphant smile.
He told me that faking his own death was the only way to escape the cartel hitmen who had chased his truck.
He and his brothers had pushed the vehicle into the ravine and planted stolen dental records on random bodies from a morgue.
Kyle proudly bragged about how brilliant his escape plan was, expecting me to cower in fear like I used to.
He demanded that I hand over the two million dollars, claiming he had finally tracked me down through a facial recognition glitch.
Kyle took a threatening step forward, fully expecting me to cry and beg for my pathetic life.
He smiled brightly, thinking he had finally cornered his helpless, abandoned wife.
However, the smile completely vanished from his face the instant he saw who was standing directly behind me.
Julian stepped out from the shadows of my private back office, his tailored suit hiding a heavily armed, tactical presence.
My fiancé did not say a single word as he moved to stand firmly by my side.
Kyle’s arrogant posture immediately crumbled when he recognized Julian’s face from the high-profile federal news cases.
He frantically took a step backward, realizing that I was no longer the weak, isolated woman he had left at the gas station.
Julian coldly informed Kyle that the entire building was currently surrounded by his private security contractors.
Kyle’s eyes darted nervously toward the exit, sweat visibly forming on his pale forehead.
He desperately tried to salvage his ruined extortion plan by making one final, pathetic threat.
Kyle revealed that he had sent Brad and Chase to Julian’s penthouse an hour ago to kidnap Sarah as a hostage.
He pulled out his phone, ready to show us the live video feed of our captured friend.
