Chapter 6 - The Return

Marcus arrived at our house at 11:00 PM. He was disheveled, exhausted, and furious. He had been forced to take a budget flight back to the US, leaving his daughters with his father in Canada. He thought he could intimidate me into signing whatever paperwork was necessary to give him his money back.

He stomped up the driveway, noticing the missing padlock on the shed. He cursed under his breath. The brat had gotten out. He assumed I found her crying, got mad, and called the bank to be petty. He had no idea about the trust clause.

He didn't bother using his key. He kicked the front door, expecting it to splinter. It held firm. He kicked it again, roaring, "Open this door right now!"

The deadbolt clicked. The door swung open.

Marcus sneered, ready to unleash a barrage of verbal abuse. But the words died in his throat.
