Chapter 8 - The Uninvited Guests

The heavy thud of combat boots stomping up the wooden staircase shook the entire house.
"Open this door right now!" the lead criminal shouted, violently rattling the bedroom doorknob.
I quickly pulled the USB drive from the laptop and shoved it deep into my pocket.
Davina was sobbing hysterically, completely paralyzed by the terrifying reality of her husband's choices.
I grabbed Juny by the hand and pulled her toward the connected master bathroom, locking that door as well.
The bedroom door splintered and completely caved in as a massive man kicked it off its hinges.
"Where are the real estate documents?" the man roared, grabbing Davina violently by her hair.
Davina screamed in agony, pointing a shaking finger directly toward the bathroom door.
"My sister has them, I swear she is the one holding up the deal!" Davina cried out, betraying me instantly.
The man dropped her to the floor and began slamming his heavy shoulder against the bathroom door.
The wood began to crack around the frame, giving way with every brutal impact.
"Mom, I am so scared," Juny whispered, clutching her surgical bandages tightly.
I pulled my cell phone from my pocket, desperately dialing 911 despite having only one bar of signal.
"911, what is your emergency?" a dispatcher answered through harsh static.
"There are armed men in my house, they are trying to kill us," I whispered urgently, giving the exact address.
Before the dispatcher could reply, the bathroom door completely shattered inward.
The massive man reached through the broken wood, grabbing my phone and smashing it against the tile floor.
He grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and dragged me forcefully out into the destroyed bedroom.
Holt and Eleanor were standing in the hallway, surrounded by three other heavily armed thugs.
"Sign the deed right now, Clara, or they will kill all of us!" Eleanor pleaded, entirely focused on saving her own life.
The lead thug pulled a heavy silver handgun from his waistband and pressed the barrel directly against my forehead.

"You have exactly ten seconds to hand over the title," the man growled, clicking the safety off.
Suddenly, the piercing sound of police sirens erupted from the long gravel driveway outside.
