Chapter 6 - The Sister's Greed

Davina smiled wickedly, tapping the red legal folder against her expensive designer jeans.
"I found this little secret while you were busy playing nurse last night," she bragged.
She had sneaked away from their lakeside dinner to rummage through the house for valuables.
"Give me that folder right now, Davina," I demanded, stepping out of the closet.
"Do you really think I am that stupid, Clara?" she laughed, clutching the documents tightly to her chest.
She explained that Holt's debts would bankrupt her family if they did not hand over the house to the cartel immediately.
"I know Augusta left everything to your brat, but we need this money more than she does," Davina justified cruelly.
"You are willing to let criminals steal Juny's inheritance to save your pathetic husband?" I asked in disgust.
Davina's face hardened into a cold, ruthless mask.
"I am offering you a choice," she said, lowering her voice so the men downstairs could not hear.
"Let the sale go through, and I will secretly wire you a hundred thousand dollars when the dust settles."
She was trying to bribe me with my own daughter's stolen money.
"If you refuse, I will throw this folder into the fireplace, and Eleanor's fake will becomes the only legal document left."
I felt completely cornered, knowing a hundred thousand dollars was nothing compared to the true value of the estate.
More importantly, I refused to let them win after a lifetime of treating us like garbage.
Before I could formulate a plan, a small voice echoed from the hallway behind my sister.
"You don't have to burn it, Aunt Davina," Juny said softly.
I gasped in horror as my fourteen-year-old daughter stepped into the room, clutching her bandaged stomach.
She had grown tired of waiting in the car and had quietly slipped through the unlocked back door.
Davina spun around, startled by Juny's sudden and silent appearance.
Juny slowly raised her hand, revealing a small, silver USB drive dangling from a silver chain.

"Grandma Augusta gave this to me before she died and told me to hide it until it was absolutely necessary," Juny revealed.
Written on the side of the drive in Augusta's elegant handwriting were the words, "For Juny Only."
