Chapter 3 - The Forged Signature

The sheer scale of my mother's betrayal hit me like a physical blow to the chest.

Eleanor had not just insulted my daughter; she had actively stolen Juny's entire future.

"Can we stop the final transfer before the buyers take possession tomorrow?" I begged Miss Castellano.

"I am filing an emergency injunction with a federal judge tonight," the brilliant attorney promised.

She warned me that a legal freeze would only buy us a few days to prove the forgery.

I hung up the phone and looked over at Juny, who was peacefully dreaming in her hospital bed.

For fourteen years, I had swallowed my pride and accepted my family's emotional abuse just to keep the peace.

I had allowed them to call my child a drama queen while they secretly plotted to rob her blind.

The time for keeping the peace was officially over.

At dawn, the surgical team cleared Juny to be discharged with strict instructions for bed rest.

I carefully helped her into my old sedan, wrapping a soft blanket around her fragile shoulders.

"Are we going back to the hotel, Mom?" Juny asked, her voice still thick with painkillers.

"No, sweetie, we are going straight to the lake house," I told her firmly.

I drove the scenic mountain roads with a singular, burning focus in my mind.

When we finally pulled into the gravel driveway, my heart pounded furiously against my ribs.

Two massive moving trucks were parked on the lawn, destroying Grandma Augusta's beautiful flower beds.

I told Juny to stay locked safely inside the car while I marched up the wooden porch steps.

The front door was wide open, and professional movers were carrying out antique furniture.

I pushed past them and walked directly into the grand living room overlooking the crystal blue water.

My mother, Eleanor, was standing by the fireplace, directing the workers with a glass of champagne in her hand.

Davina was packing Augusta's expensive silverware into a cardboard box, laughing loudly at something on her phone.

"What are you doing in my house?" I screamed, my voice echoing off the vaulted wooden ceilings.

Eleanor turned around slowly, looking at me as if I were a stray dog that had wandered indoors.

"You have a lot of nerve showing your face after you ruined our dinner last night," Eleanor sneered.

"You forged my signature and stole two million dollars," I fired back, completely ignoring her insult.

Davina dropped a silver spoon, her face turning pale as she looked frantically at our mother.

Eleanor simply smiled, took a slow sip of her champagne, and pulled a yellowed envelope from her designer purse.

"I did not forge anything, darling," Eleanor laughed wickedly.

She pulled out a handwritten document sealed with Grandma Augusta's personal wax stamp.

"I found Augusta's original will hidden in the attic, and it explicitly disinherits both you and your brat forever."
