Chapter 4 - The Lake House Ambush

I stared at the yellowed paper in Eleanor's hand, my mind racing to process this impossible claim.

Grandma Augusta had despised Eleanor's greed and would never have left her the estate.

"Let me see that document," I demanded, stepping aggressively toward my mother.

Eleanor snatched it back, holding it safely out of my reach with a victorious smirk.

"It is fully notarized and completely legally binding," she gloated, tapping her manicured nail against the signature.

I knew my grandmother had updated her trust with Miss Castellano just weeks before she passed away.

Whatever paper Eleanor was holding was either an outdated draft or a complete fabrication.

"You cannot legally evict us, so take your sick child and leave immediately," Davina chimed in, regaining her cruel confidence.

"Juny almost died last night, and you did not even bother to check on her," I yelled at my sister.

"She is a drama queen who just wanted attention," Davina rolled her eyes, turning back to the silverware.

That was the exact moment my last shred of familial love completely died.

"I am not leaving this property until the police arrive," I declared, pulling out my cell phone.

Eleanor's smug smile instantly vanished, replaced by a flash of genuine panic.

"You will do no such thing," she snapped, lunging forward to grab the phone out of my hand.

I dodged her grasp easily, dialing the local sheriff's department without hesitation.

Before the call could connect, heavy footsteps echoed heavily across the wooden porch outside.

Holt walked into the living room, followed closely by two men wearing dark, ill-fitting suits.

These were clearly not the wealthy real estate investors Holt had bragged about at dinner.

They looked rough, dangerous, and completely out of place in our luxurious vacation home.

"The deal is done, Eleanor," Holt announced nervously, avoiding eye contact with the terrifying men behind him.

"I told you I needed the title entirely clear before we arrived," the taller man growled, his voice thick with menace.

He stepped into the room and immediately locked the heavy wooden front door behind him.

"Nobody is leaving this house until I get what I paid for," the man threatened, pulling a hunting knife from his belt.
