Chapter 6 - The Blackout Surgery
The darkness was absolutely suffocating as the heavy boots continued to batter the front door.
Elena cursed softly in the dark and clicked on a small, battery-powered headlamp strapped to her forehead.
"Keep pressure on this exact spot, do not let your hand slip," Elena ordered, guiding my fingers into Maya’s open wound.
The warm blood soaked my trembling hands, but I pressed down fiercely to keep my daughter alive.
"I am almost at the capsule, just give me two more minutes," Elena whispered, her tools clicking rapidly.
The front door finally gave way with a deafening crash, splintering into the waiting room.
"Sweep every room, I want my property back right now!" Robert’s vicious voice echoed down the hallway.
I looked around the dark surgical room, desperately searching for any kind of weapon to defend us.
I grabbed a heavy metal oxygen tank from the corner and hid silently behind the surgical room door.
The heavy footsteps of a massive henchman approached our room, his flashlight cutting through the darkness.
He kicked our door open and stepped inside, aiming his weapon directly at the operating table.
Before he could pull the trigger, I swung the heavy oxygen tank with every ounce of furious strength I possessed.
The metal cylinder smashed violently into the side of his head with a sickening crunch.
The massive man collapsed entirely to the floor, dropping his high-powered rifle at my feet.
"One down," I whispered, my chest heaving with wild, uncontrollable adrenaline.
Elena finally pulled a glowing, acid-covered metal cylinder from Maya’s stomach with her long forceps.
"I have the capsule, we need to stitch her up immediately," Elena announced in a rushed panic.
Suddenly, the emergency backup generators roared to life, flooding the room with blinding fluorescent light.
Robert was standing perfectly still in the doorway, holding a massive shotgun aimed directly at my chest.

He smiled wickedly and racked the slide of the weapon with a terrifying metallic clack.
"Hand over the drive, Elena, or I will blow my wife in half," Robert demanded calmly.
