Chapter 2 - The Corporate Fixer

Robert aimed the weapon directly at Dr. Lawson’s chest without a single ounce of hesitation.
"Delete the scan and step away from my daughter," Robert ordered with a chillingly calm voice.
Dr. Lawson raised his hands in absolute terror and slowly backed away from the medical machinery.
I stood up, shielding Maya’s shivering body with my own.
"What did you put inside our child, Robert?" I screamed, tears of pure rage burning my eyes.
"She put it there herself because she is a meddling, foolish little girl," Robert sneered coldly.
He gestured to one of the massive men in suits, who immediately pulled a black medical kit from his briefcase.
"This is Dr. Vance, and he is going to extract my property right now," Robert announced.
Dr. Vance pulled on a pair of black latex gloves and retrieved a long, terrifying surgical scalpel.
"You are not operating on her in this dirty room without anesthesia!" I yelled, shoving a rolling tray toward them.
The heavy metal tray crashed into Dr. Vance, sending his surgical tools clattering across the linoleum floor.
Robert cursed loudly and lunged forward, grabbing my hair with a violent, punishing grip.
"You are ruining a ten-million-dollar deal, you stupid woman," Robert hissed directly into my ear.
Maya suddenly kicked the ultrasound machine, sending it crashing heavily into Robert’s knees.
His grip loosened just enough for me to tear myself away from his cruel hands.
"Run, Maya!" I screamed, shoving her toward the secondary emergency exit at the back of the room.
We burst through the heavy fire door, stumbling blindly into the chaotic, crowded hospital corridor.
Alarms immediately began blaring overhead, triggered by the unauthorized use of the emergency exit.
Nurses and patients scattered as we sprinted frantically toward the main lobby doors.
I risked a single glance over my shoulder and saw Robert’s men pushing violently through the terrified crowd.

We burst out into the warm afternoon air and threw ourselves into my parked SUV.
I jammed the key into the ignition, ignoring the terrifying sound of a bullet shattering my rear window.
