Chapter 1 - The Impossible Scan

Dr. Lawson turned the monitor completely toward me, his hands shaking slightly.
I expected to see a mass, a tumor, or perhaps a ruptured appendix.
Instead, the screen displayed a perfectly symmetrical, glowing white cylinder resting deep in Maya’s stomach.
It was not organic tissue, and it was certainly not a natural growth.
"It is a metallic object," Dr. Lawson whispered, looking over his shoulder toward the closed door.
My brain struggled to process the sharp edges and the unmistakable artificial design of the shape.
"Did she accidentally swallow a battery?" I asked, my voice trembling with absolute panic.
Maya squeezed my hand so tightly that my knuckles turned completely white.
"Mom, it wasn't an accident," she choked out, tears streaming down her pale cheeks.
Dr. Lawson zoomed in on the high-resolution image, revealing tiny, microscopic engraved letters on the casing.
The medical software enhanced the text until the serial number became undeniably clear.
It was not a random piece of swallowed metal or a toy part.
The side of the capsule clearly displayed the official logo of my husband's private biotechnology firm.
"Robert's company makes these," I gasped, the room suddenly spinning wildly around me.
"This is a military-grade data vault, designed to be physically smuggled inside the human body," Dr. Lawson explained nervously.
He told me the capsule was highly toxic and rapidly leaking battery acid into her digestive tract.
"We have to surgically remove it right now before it kills her," I demanded instantly.
Dr. Lawson nodded, reaching for the red emergency phone mounted on the clinic wall.
Before his fingers could even graze the receiver, the clinic door swung violently open.
Two massive men in dark suits stepped into the room, followed closely by my husband.

Robert looked at the glowing ultrasound monitor and smiled a terrifying, completely hollow smile.
"I told you not to waste money on hospitals, honey," Robert said, pulling a silenced pistol from his coat.
