Chapter 7 - The Desperate Alliance

I hit the metal floor of the cargo hold hard, the intense heat instantly searing my lungs.
The entire lower deck of the airplane was completely engulfed in thick, toxic black smoke.
"Bruno!" I screamed desperately, crawling blindly across the burning floorboards.
A weak, muffled whimper echoed from the very back of the terrifying, fiery compartment.
I scrambled furiously toward the sound, ignoring the blistering heat radiating through my wet clothes.
I found Bruno locked inside a massive, reinforced steel transport cage.
The heavy padlock was completely jammed, partially melted by the rapidly intensifying heat.
My massive dog looked at me with sad, terrified eyes, coughing heavily from the poisonous smoke.
I grabbed a heavy steel cargo strap hook from the wall and began smashing it fiercely against the ruined padlock.
"Come on, break!" I roared, striking the heavy metal with every ounce of my remaining, desperate strength.
The lock finally shattered, and I threw the heavy steel door completely open.
Bruno dragged his massive, arthritic body out of the cage, leaning heavily against my side for support.
The flames were now actively blocking the main exit hatch, leaving us entirely trapped in the belly of the burning beast.
I noticed a large, structural stress crack in the fuselage where the cargo door had previously exploded outward.
"We have to push through the wall, buddy," I urged, throwing my entire body weight fiercely against the weakened metal panel.
Bruno understood instantly, throwing his massive 150-pound frame against the damaged wall right beside me.
The weakened aluminum violently tore apart, creating a jagged, massive hole leading out to the tarmac.
We tumbled fiercely out of the burning plane, hitting the wet concrete just as the primary fuel tanks completely detonated.
A massive shockwave threw us several feet across the runway, showering us in burning debris and twisted metal.
I covered Bruno's head with my arms, praying the falling shrapnel would not strike us.
When the fiery rain finally stopped, I slowly sat up, completely exhausted and covered in dark soot.
Bruno licked my face aggressively, a beautiful, comforting sign that my best friend had miraculously survived.
I looked toward the boarding stairs, but Vivienne had completely vanished into the chaotic, stormy night.
Suddenly, a fleet of heavily armored FBI tactical vehicles burst fiercely through the main airport gates.
Marcus had managed to contact his federal assets, bringing the absolute full force of the law crashing down upon the runway.

I wrapped my arms tightly around my dog, finally feeling the terrifying, chaotic nightmare ending.
But as a team of federal agents rushed toward us with medical kits, my phone vibrated with one final, terrifying text message.
