Chapter 6 - The Fiery Trap

The massive steel cargo door flew through the air, crashing heavily onto the wet tarmac just inches from my feet.

Thick, black smoke began billowing aggressively out from the underbelly of the luxury jet.

Victor and his heavily armed mercenaries poured out of the damaged cargo hold, coughing violently.

Vivienne had betrayed the cartel enforcer, intentionally locking him inside the plane with a crude incendiary device.

"You treacherous witch!" Victor roared, raising his automatic rifle toward the boarding stairs.

Vivienne didn't hesitate for a single second.

She fired her silver pistol with terrifying accuracy, striking Victor squarely in the chest.

The cartel leader collapsed backward onto the tarmac, his heavy body splashing loudly into a massive puddle.

The remaining mercenaries instantly panicked, turning their weapons directly toward Vivienne.

"Get down!" I screamed to Sofia, charging fiercely up the metal boarding stairs.

A chaotic, deafening hail of bullets ripped through the air, tearing massive holes into the fuselage of the expensive jet.

I tackled Vivienne violently to the metal platform, completely shielding little Sofia with my own body.

Vivienne lost her grip on the pistol as we crashed hard against the luxury cabin door.

"You ruined absolutely everything, Adrian!" she screamed, clawing viciously at my face with her manicured nails.

I grabbed her wrists, pinning her aggressively to the grated metal floor of the stairs.

"Take Sofia and run to the truck right now!" I yelled down to Marcus, who was waiting at the bottom of the steps.

Marcus scooped the terrified toddler into his arms and sprinted fiercely back toward the perimeter fence.

The firefight between the mercenaries and the burning jet caused a massive pool of aviation fuel to ignite.

A towering wall of blistering fire completely surrounded the boarding stairs, trapping Vivienne and me on the platform.

"Where is Bruno?!" I demanded, shaking her violently as the flames licked dangerously close to our shoes.

Vivienne laughed maniacally, completely unfazed by the terrifying inferno rapidly closing in around us.

"He is locked inside the burning cargo hold, and you are going to burn to death right along with him!" she gloated.

I looked desperately at the roaring fire consuming the lower half of the airplane.

I had exactly ten seconds to choose between saving my own life or plunging into the blazing inferno to find my dog.

I released Vivienne's wrists and threw myself recklessly off the platform, diving straight into the terrifying, burning cargo hold.
