Chapter 5 - The Loyal Maid

The line went dead, leaving me staring in absolute horror at the dark screen of my phone.

Vivienne had completely bypassed the armed guards at my estate and kidnapped an innocent three-year-old girl.

I immediately dialed the security desk at my mansion, praying someone would actually answer.

"Sir, we have a massive situation here," the frantic voice of my head of security echoed through the speaker.

"Miss Vivienne drugged Maria's evening tea and walked right out the front door with Sofia."

I ordered the security team to lock down the estate and care for Maria until I returned.

"I am going to the airfield alone, Marcus," I stated, pulling my friend to his feet.

"You need to get to a hospital and contact the federal authorities immediately."

Marcus shook his head fiercely, refusing to abandon me in my darkest hour.

"I am coming with you, Adrian; I owe you my life," he insisted, wiping the blood from his eyes.

I didn't have the time or the energy to argue with a stubborn, bleeding lawyer.

We stole a rusted pickup truck from a nearby construction site and sped toward the private aviation fields.

The rain had escalated into a massive thunderstorm, making the treacherous roads incredibly slick.

"How did she even get past your elite security detail?" Marcus asked as we swerved wildly around a tight corner.

"Because they were specifically trained to keep threats out, not to stop the future lady of the house from leaving," I replied bitterly.

We finally reached the perimeter fence of the secluded, highly expensive private airport.

A sleek, massive luxury jet was idling on the rain-soaked tarmac, its engines whining loudly.

I grabbed the heavy tire iron from the truck and kicked the rusted chain-link fence open.

We sprinted across the dark runway, moving silently through the deep shadows of parked aircraft.

As we approached the idling jet, I saw Vivienne standing elegantly at the top of the mobile boarding stairs.

She was holding a terrified, weeping Sofia tightly by the arm.

I stepped out of the shadows, raising my empty hands into the air to show I was completely unarmed.

"I am right here, Vivienne!" I shouted over the deafening roar of the jet engines.

She smiled wickedly and pulled a sleek, silver pistol from her expensive designer coat.

But before she could aim the weapon at me, the heavy cargo door of the airplane violently blew completely off its hinges.
