Chapter 7 - The Collapse

Outside the large floor-to-ceiling windows of my study, the peaceful morning silence was suddenly shattered.

The deep, rumbling roar of heavy industrial diesel engines echoed across the manicured lawns.

Ashley rushed to the glass, parting the silk curtains with trembling fingers. "What is that? What are those trucks doing out there?"

I didn't answer her, instead walking calmly to the window to watch the destruction begin.

Three massive, flatbed commercial transport trucks belonging to a rival real-estate development firm had just crashed through my front security gates.

Behind them rolled two heavy bulldozers bearing the bold, yellow logo of Northstar Logistics.

Victoria spun around to face me, her eyes wild with panic. "Daniel! Those are commercial demolition vehicles! What have you done?"

"I'm doing a little remodeling," I replied smoothly, leaning against the glass.

Marcus stepped into the study holding a stack of freshly printed legal documents. He didn't look at the screaming women; he walked straight up to me and handed over a heavy black fountain pen.

"The emergency injunctions have been filed with the state superior court," Marcus reported efficiently. "All Sterling family corporate assets tied to your residential property liens have been legally frozen."

Richard groaned from the floor, clutching his bleeding nose with a silk handkerchief. "You can't do that... Sterling Development holds the primary mortgage on this estate... the courts will block—"

"The courts already ruled thirty seconds ago, Richard," I interrupted, tossing the legal papers onto his bloody chest. "Turns out when a federal security firm uncovers systemic financial fraud, money laundering, and illegal offshore tax shelters hidden inside a family real-estate trust, judges tend to stop listening to your zoning complaints."

Richard’s face drained of every drop of color, leaving him looking like a corpse. "How... how did you find that?"

"I'm a self-made man, Richard," I said, walking over and stepping casually over his legs. "Which means I know how to dig through the dirty laundry of people who think they're untouchable."

Victoria grabbed my arm, her fingernails digging desperately into my sleeve. "Daniel, please... think about what you're doing. We're a family. We can fix this. Just send those trucks away."

I looked down at her hand, slowly peeling her fingers away one by one as if she were a diseased stranger.

"The only thing getting fixed today is my son's life," I said coldly. "And it starts by erasing every single trace of your toxic bloodline from his world."

Down on the lawn, the first heavy bulldozer dropped its steel blade with a deafening screech.

It drove straight into the expensive, imported Italian marble fountain in the center of the courtyard, smashing it into a thousand worthless pieces.

Brooke and Ashley burst into hysterical tears, watching their family's ostentatious symbols of wealth get pulverized into dust.

"You're destroying everything!" Victoria screamed, pounding her fists against my chest in blind fury. "My father built this empire! You're nothing without us!"

I caught her wrists easily, holding her still while I looked deep into her panicked eyes.

"You thought I was your biggest achievement, Victoria," I whispered harshly. "You were wrong. I was your executioner."

May you like

Before she could scream another word, the heavy double doors of the study flew open once more.

Two uniformed police officers stepped inside, flanked by a stern-faced federal marshal holding a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.
