Chapter 7 - The Final Evidence
I plugged the USB into my secure laptop. It contained an audio recording.
It was a recording from Julian’s cell phone, capturing a confrontation between him and Arthur in Arthur’s private office just two days before Julian’s death.
"You're destroying the family name, Dad! You're stealing from grieving people!" Julian's voice rang out, strong and furious.
"I am building an empire, you naive fool," Arthur sneered back. "If you go to the authorities, Julian, you will regret it. Accidents happen on those mountain roads all the time."
I slammed my fist onto the desk, a feral scream of rage tearing from my throat.
Arthur hadn't just tried to take my daughter. He had taken her father.

I didn't hand the USB over to the police immediately. I made a copy, put it in my pocket, and called the district attorney.
"I need a face-to-face with Arthur Sterling," I said. "Today."
