Chapter 8 - The Federal Raid

The federal agent commanded the mercenaries to drop their weapons immediately.

The mercenaries realized they were completely outgunned and threw their guns onto the gravel.

My mother scrambled to her feet and hugged me fiercely against her chest.

Grandma stood up and dusted the wet dirt off her elegant clothes.

The agents moved quickly to secure the surrendered men in heavy steel handcuffs.

The lead agent walked over to my mother and apologized for the delay.

He explained that Chloe had indeed compromised his personal phone, but his team had tracked the signal.

They had been monitoring my father's movements since the birthday party chaos began.

I looked over at the muddy ditch where my father had fallen.

The ditch was completely empty.

My father had used the chaos of the crash to crawl away into the dark woods.

The lead agent shouted orders for his team to set up a perimeter search.

He warned us that my father was desperate and highly dangerous.

He escorted us into the safety of the armored tactical vehicle.

We sat on the metal benches, shivering in our soaked clothes.

The agent handed us warm blankets and promised we were finally safe.

He asked me if my father had taken the flash drive from the doll.

I nodded slowly and pointed to the torn doll resting on the truck floor.

The agent cursed under his breath, knowing the evidence was gone.

I reached into the pocket of my wrinkled party dress.

I pulled out a second, identical metallic flash drive.

I told the agent that my mother had actually hidden two drives inside the toy just in case.
