Chapter 2 - The Venue Owner

A collective, synchronized gasp echoed across the massive ballroom.

My father physically stumbled backward, his face turning an alarming shade of ashen grey.

He looked wildly from Daniel to me, trying to process the absolute impossibility of the word wife leaving the billionaire's mouth.

Allison, resplendent in her custom designer gown, froze entirely in the middle of the dance floor.

Her perfect wedding was being hijacked, and for the first time in her life, she was not the center of attention.

"Mr. Reyes, there must be some kind of misunderstanding," my father stammered, his voice trembling with a mix of fear and confusion.

"She is just Meredith, my awkward daughter who tells desperate lies for attention."

Daniel smoothly wrapped a possessive arm around my waist, pulling me firmly against his side.

"I assure you, I know exactly who I married three years ago in a private ceremony in Tuscany," Daniel replied, his voice echoing loudly in the silent room.

He looked my father up and down with absolute, undisguised disgust.

"And I also know exactly who owns the ground you are currently standing on."

My father swallowed hard, nervously tugging at the collar of his expensive tuxedo.

Everyone in the city knew this historic country club had been bought out by an anonymous corporate entity last month.

The realization hit my father like a physical blow to the chest.

Daniel owned the venue, the catering company, and the very microphones they had used to publicly mock me.

Allison's new husband, Greg, finally stepped forward, attempting to play the role of the confident peacemaker.

Greg was a slick investment banker who always believed he was the smartest man in every room.

"Listen, Daniel, let us not ruin a beautiful celebration over a silly family prank," Greg chuckled nervously.

Daniel slowly turned his piercing gaze toward the groom.

"I would be very careful about who you call silly, Gregory," Daniel warned in a dangerously low tone.

Greg's confident smile vanished instantly, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror.

He realized that Daniel was not just a famous billionaire, but the anonymous creditor holding the massive, illicit gambling debts Greg had been desperately hiding from his new bride.

Daniel pulled a small, folded piece of paper from his tuxedo pocket and held it up for Greg to see.

"Shall I read the exact amount you owe my associates, or would you prefer to tell Allison yourself?"
