My family brought us to an a.ban.don.ed mining town, and without warning, my father and brother sent me and my 8-year-old daughter tumbling down a mine shaft. When we landed, she whispered, “Mom... don’t move.” We stayed still until they left. Then she revealed what my brother said before we fell.

The ruthless mercenary was covered entirely in chalky white dust and drying blood, but he was very much alive.

"You are a remarkably hard woman to kill, Melissa," he spat, spitting out a thick wad of dark blood.

I instantly stepped directly in front of Sophie, shielding her completely with my own battered body.

"Please, let her go right now," I begged with everything I had left.

"She hasn't done absolutely anything to you or your boss."

The man laughed coldly, a sound completely devoid of any human empathy.

"Vargas wants your entire bloodline erased from the earth, and I want my massive payout."

He grabbed me violently by the hair and shoved a thick plastic zip-tie tightly around my bruised wrists.

He quickly bound Sophie's tiny hands as well, tossing us roughly into the back of his armored SUV.

He slammed the heavy doors shut and climbed confidently into the driver's seat.

The doors locked instantly with a heavy, electronic thud that sealed our terrible fate.

As he drove us recklessly down the winding mountain road, I frantically scanned the backseat for anything sharp.

My foot brushed accidentally against a heavy metal toolbox wedged tightly underneath the driver's seat.

I managed to quietly kick the latch open, exposing a rusty pair of heavy industrial wire cutters.

I twisted my painfully bound wrists, agonizingly inching my numb fingers toward the heavy tool.

The driver was completely distracted, busy talking on a satellite phone to confirm the kill order with the cartel.

I finally gripped the cold rubber handles of the cutters and clipped the thick zip-tie on my wrists.

I quickly freed Sophie's hands and pressed a desperate, warning finger to my lips.

I grabbed a heavy, solid steel wrench from the toolbox and waited for the perfect moment.

The massive SUV slowed down significantly to safely navigate a sharp, dangerous hairpin turn.

When my newborn 'passed away,' my mother-in-law leaned in and said

My Husband Left Me Alone in My Car While I Was in Labor

“You’re Dead When We Get Home,” He Snapped

I lunged forward violently and smashed the heavy steel wrench directly into the side of the driver's head.

The armored car swerved violently off the icy road and crashed brutally into a massive pine tree.
