Chapter 7 - The Desperate Escape

Arthur stepped closer to the bed, holding the needle up to the harsh fluorescent light.

He coldly stated that the dark liquid would stop Grace’s heart in less than thirty seconds without leaving a single trace.

He promised to spare Annie and me only if Grace handed over the digital ledger right now.

Grace looked the billionaire dead in the eye and spat weakly onto his expensive polished shoes.

Arthur’s face twisted in pure rage, and he lunged forward to plunge the needle directly into her IV line.

I didn't even stop to think about the consequences.

I lowered my shoulder and tackled the elderly man with every ounce of strength in my eleven-year-old body.

We crashed heavily into the metal medical cart, sending trays of surgical instruments scattering across the floor.

The impact knocked the glass syringe out of Arthur’s hand, and it shattered completely on the white tiles.

The dark, lethal poison sizzled as it ate into the pristine linoleum floor.

Arthur groaned in pain, clutching his hip as he struggled to get back up.

I frantically ripped the IV needles out of Grace’s arms, ignoring the small drops of blood that followed.

Annie grabbed Grace’s other arm, and together we pulled our incredibly weak sister out of the hospital bed.

Grace stumbled, her legs shaking violently, but pure survival instinct forced her to keep moving.

We pushed past the groaning billionaire and burst through the heavy glass doors into the main corridor.

Two armed guards at the end of the hallway drew their weapons and shouted for us to stop immediately.

I grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall and slammed it against the emergency alarm panel.

Thick chemical smoke sprayed everywhere, blinding the guards and setting off a deafening siren.

We sprinted through the blinding fog, diving into a narrow maintenance stairwell that led up into the main mansion.

We reached the top of the stairs and spilled out into Arthur's massive, two-story private library.

Before we could even catch our breath, heavy steel security shutters slammed down over every single door and window in the room.
