Chapter 6 - The Storage Locker

I reached into my coat pocket and found a tiny, magnetic GPS tracker stuck to the inner lining.

I threw the device out the window into the wet grass of a passing ditch.

My own brother had sold me out to the man who murdered my wife.

I knew I had a very narrow window of time before Adrian’s men realized the tracker was stationary.

I sped back to the motel, grabbed Jerry and the evidence bag, and drove directly to Union Station.

The massive train terminal was completely empty and eerily quiet at three in the morning.

I found the row of metal storage lockers hidden near the abandoned maintenance tunnels.

I slid Victor’s brass key into locker forty-two and turned it until the lock clicked loudly.

Inside the locker was a heavy, military-grade encrypted hard drive wrapped in bubble wrap.

This was the master ledger Clara had mentioned, the ultimate proof that would destroy Adrian’s entire empire.

I placed the hard drive into my bag and turned around to leave the station.

The main terminal lights suddenly shut off, plunging the massive building into near-total darkness.

Heavy tactical boots echoed across the marble floor from every single exit.

I peered around the corner and saw the corrupt detective leading a dozen armed mercenaries into the station.

They were fanning out, checking every single row of lockers with tactical flashlights.

The detective raised his radio to his mouth and smiled.

He loudly announced that the building was completely sealed and there was no way out alive.
