Chapter 6 - The Dig Site

We stole a battered jeep and drove deep into the unforgiving Egyptian desert under the cover of darkness.
The night air was freezing, a sharp contrast to the blistering heat of the day.
Amina navigated the treacherous sand dunes without turning on the headlights.
"The syndicate operates out of a massive underground network of caves," she explained quietly.
We finally parked the jeep behind a large rock formation and continued on foot.
In the distance, heavy floodlights illuminated a sprawling, heavily guarded excavation site.
Armed mercenaries patrolled the perimeter with automatic rifles strapped to their chests.
"How do we get inside without getting killed?" I asked, gripping my pistol tightly.
Amina pointed toward a narrow, dark ventilation shaft carved into the ancient stone.
We crawled on our stomachs through the sand, avoiding the sweeping beams of the guard lights.
I squeezed into the tight, suffocating tunnel right behind Amina.
We crawled for what felt like hours through the pitch-black, claustrophobic darkness.
Finally, the tunnel opened up into a massive, torch-lit underground cavern.
We quietly dropped down onto a stone ledge overlooking the main floor.
I scanned the room, desperately searching for any sign of Tara.
Instead, I saw a heavy iron cage suspended over a deep, terrifying pit in the center of the cavern.
Someone was slumped inside the cage, bleeding heavily from severe wounds.
Amina and I silently climbed down the rock wall to get a closer look.
I gasped in shock when I recognized the bloody face of the prisoner.
It was Chief Inspector Omar.
He looked up at me with wide, terrified eyes as he struggled to breathe.

"David is not the mastermind," Omar coughed, spitting blood onto the stone floor.
"He betrayed us all, and the real boss has been living in your house for twenty years."
