Chapter 7 - The Hostile Takeover

The name Apex Global hung in the air like a death sentence for the entire company.
Apex was our largest international vendor, representing nearly sixty percent of our total annual revenue.
Losing their massive shipping contract would instantly bankrupt Hayes Freight Solutions.
The company would not even survive the weekend.
Madison burst into a cruel, manic fit of laughter, completely ignoring the federal agents standing beside her.
“Congratulations on your big promotion, Ethan!” she cackled wildly.
“You get to be the CEO of a completely dead company!”
“Have fun liquidating the trucks to pay off the bankruptcy lawyers!”
Robert buried his face in his hands, weeping openly as his life's work evaporated into thin air.
I ignored my toxic family entirely and leaned closer to the conference room speakerphone.
“Patch the CEO of Apex through to this line immediately,” I instructed the receptionist.
A tense click echoed through the speaker, followed by the furious, booming voice of Marcus Sterling, the head of Apex Global.
“What the hell is going on over there, Ethan?” Marcus roared through the phone.
“I have CNN on my television, and they are showing federal agents raiding your corporate headquarters!”
“I am freezing all active shipping routes and initiating a massive breach of contract lawsuit!”
The two board members looked at me with sheer terror, bracing themselves for total financial ruin.
I kept my voice perfectly level, projecting an aura of absolute, unshakeable confidence.
“Marcus, I highly advise you to take a deep breath and listen to me very carefully,” I said firmly.
“The federal agents are here at my specific request.”
“I have officially purged the corrupt executive leadership from this company, and I am now the undisputed CEO.”
Marcus scoffed loudly on the other end of the line.
“I don't care if you are the Pope, Ethan!” Marcus yelled.
“Your company is completely unstable, and I cannot risk billions of dollars in freight on a sinking ship!”
“I want my three-million-dollar deposit wired back to my accounts right this second!”
I quickly typed a few commands into my laptop, pulling up a deeply hidden logistical blueprint I had designed months ago.
“If you pull that contract, Marcus, you will lose twenty percent of your profit margin to our closest competitor,” I countered smoothly.
“But if you stay with me, I am going to implement the automated routing software my father refused to fund.”
“It will cut your current transit times by thirty percent and save Apex Global twelve million dollars in operating costs this quarter alone.”
A heavy, calculating silence fell over the speakerphone.
Marcus was a ruthless businessman, and he knew a highly lucrative logistical strategy when he heard one.
“You can actually deploy that software immediately?” Marcus asked, his tone shifting from furious to highly intrigued.
“I can deploy it the moment you sign a binding, ten-year exclusive contract with my new administration,” I promised.
I could practically hear the gears turning in the Apex CEO’s head.
“Alright, Ethan, you have a deal,” Marcus finally agreed.
“But my confidence in your firm is currently hanging by a very thin thread.”
“I will only sign the contract if you can prove your internal banking infrastructure is still fully operational.”
“I am initiating a secondary wire transfer of one million dollars right now.”
“If that money does not clear into your primary operating account within the next five minutes, the entire deal is permanently dead.”
I smiled, feeling a massive surge of adrenaline pump through my veins.
“Send the wire, Marcus,” I commanded confidently.
“It will clear without a single issue.”
I ended the call and turned to the board members, who were suddenly beaming with renewed hope.
I had just saved the company from total annihilation with a single phone call.
The federal agents moved forward, grabbing Robert and Madison by their arms to escort them out of the building.
As Madison was being dragged past my chair, she leaned in incredibly close to my ear.
Her manicured nails dug painfully into my shoulder, and she whispered a chilling secret.
“You are so smart, Ethan,” Madison hissed with a venomous smile.
May you like
“But you completely missed the hidden backdoor script I installed on the main server yesterday.”
“It is set to permanently wipe the primary operating account and transfer everything offshore in exactly three minutes.”
