Chapter 4 - The Betrayal Inside

"She never even left the state," I whispered, staring at the paused video on my phone.

Julian grabbed his car keys from the counter without a single second of hesitation.

We rushed down to the underground parking garage and jumped into his sleek sports car.

The streets of San Francisco were completely empty at two in the morning as we sped toward the city center.

I cross-referenced the distinct building shapes in Chloe's window reflection with local luxury hotels.

"She is staying at the Grand Azure Tower," I told Julian, recognizing the architectural angle of the skyline.

Julian slammed his foot on the gas pedal, his face set in a mask of cold determination.

We arrived at the luxurious hotel and tossed the keys to a very confused night valet.

Julian pulled a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills from his wallet and slammed them onto the concierge desk.

The terrified receptionist immediately handed over the master keycard for the top-floor penthouse suite.

We rode the silent elevator to the highest floor, my heart pounding painfully against my ribs.

Julian swiped the keycard, and we burst through the heavy mahogany doors without warning.

Chloe screamed in terror and dropped her expensive ring light onto the plush carpet.

She was wearing a tropical swimsuit in the middle of a freezing California night.

The massive suite was completely littered with empty shopping bags and expensive room service trays.

But there was absolutely no sign of my parents anywhere in the sprawling room.

"Where are they, Chloe?" I demanded, marching directly toward my younger sister.

Chloe backed away, her fake, confident influencer persona completely crumbling into pathetic tears.

"I don't know what you are talking about!" she cried defensively.

Julian stepped forward, his towering presence making her shrink back even further.

"Your parents framed your sister for a five-million-dollar felony, Chloe," Julian said coldly.

Chloe's eyes widened in genuine, unfiltered shock.

"They told me they were just taking a small loan to help me launch my brand," she whimpered.

I looked around the room and noticed that all of her designer luggage was completely empty.

"Where is your passport, Chloe?" I asked, a sinking feeling forming in my stomach.

She walked over to the bedside table and opened the small drawer.

She stared into the empty space and let out a devastating, horrific sob.

"They took it," Chloe choked out, collapsing onto the edge of the messy bed.

My parents had not just abandoned me to take the fall for their crimes.

They had completely abandoned their golden child, leaving her with absolutely nothing but hotel debt.
