Chapter 2 - The Interruption

The ballroom instantly descended into absolute, terrifying chaos.

My wedding guests began shouting in confusion as the police officer reached for my wrist.

Julian immediately stepped in front of me, using his tall frame as a physical shield.

"Do not touch my wife," Julian demanded with a terrifyingly calm authority.

The officer glared at him and raised a stamped official document.

"We have a federal warrant for Maya Sterling regarding the theft of five million dollars from the Sterling Family Trust," the officer stated loudly.

I could barely breathe as the horrific accusation echoed across the silent room.

"That is impossible," I stammered, tears threatening to ruin my makeup.

"My parents are the ones who stole that money!"

The officer shook his head with a look of pure disgust.

"Your parents filed the police report themselves three hours ago, claiming you committed severe elder financial abuse."

My own mother and father had framed me to cover their massive embezzlement.

They knew Julian would eventually find out about the forged loan, so they struck first to make me look like a desperate criminal.

Julian quickly pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed his elite corporate defense attorney.

"You are not arresting her today," Julian told the officers smoothly.

"This is a civil financial dispute requiring a grand jury indictment, and your warrant is entirely circumstantial."

The officers hesitated, clearly realizing they were dealing with a man who had unlimited legal resources.

Julian's lawyer arrived within ten minutes, presenting the police with an emergency injunction that temporarily halted the arrest.

The police reluctantly backed away, but they warned me not to leave the city under any circumstances.

Our beautiful wedding reception was completely destroyed, replaced by whispers and judgmental stares from my own relatives.

Julian grabbed my hand and led me out the back exit of the estate toward his waiting private car.

We drove in complete silence through the dark, winding roads of Napa Valley.

When we finally arrived at his highly secure corporate penthouse in the city, I immediately opened my laptop.

I logged into my personal banking portal to assess the actual damage my parents had caused.

My savings account, my checking account, and my childhood trust fund all showed a balance of absolute zero.

I clicked on the recent transaction history with trembling fingers.

There was a single, massive wire transfer executed yesterday afternoon for five million dollars.

I traced the routing number, expecting to see an offshore account belonging to my father.

Instead, the screen displayed the registered owner of the receiving account.

The stolen five million dollars had been directly transferred into a private account entirely owned by Julian Vance.
