Chapter 6 - The Master Manipulator

Tessa's face drained of all color as the terrifying reality of her situation finally set in.

She realized she was never a partner in this heist, but merely another disposable pawn in Marcus's game.

Marcus gestured to one of his heavily armed men, who roughly dragged Tessa away toward the SUVs.

She screamed and kicked, begging for a second chance, but her cries were completely ignored.

Marcus turned his attention back to me, clearly enjoying the absolute power he held over my life.

He reminded me that the sixty-second countdown to detonate the barn was almost over.

I picked up the gold fountain pen, feeling the heavy, cold metal trembling in my sweaty palm.

I looked at the legal documents, knowing that signing them would leave me completely bankrupt and homeless.

But I also knew I could never live with myself if David's daughter died because of my pride.

I took a deep breath, placing the tip of the pen against the signature line on the final page.

I paused, looking directly into Marcus's cold, dead eyes.

I told him I would only sign the papers if he allowed me to do it inside my grandmother's study.

I claimed that a complex biometric lock protected the final digital transfer of the trust assets.

I insisted that the transfer could only be finalized from the secure terminal inside the farmhouse.

Marcus studied my face intensely, searching for any sign of deception or a hidden trap.

He confidently agreed, believing his overwhelming firepower made him entirely invincible.

He ordered two of his largest tactical guards to accompany us into the house.

He commanded the rest of his private army to keep their weapons trained on my security team and David.

I slowly walked up the wooden steps of the farmhouse porch, feeling a strange sense of absolute calm.

Marcus followed closely behind me, his weapon drawn and ready for any sudden movements.

I unlocked the heavy oak front door and stepped into the familiar, comforting scent of cedar and old books.

We walked down the long hallway toward the east wing, which I had completely rebuilt after the terrible fire.

What nobody except my architect knew was that the east wing was not just a restored living space.

I stopped in front of the massive mahogany door leading to my grandmother's historic study.

I placed my hand on the biometric scanner, and the heavy door hissed open smoothly.

I stepped inside the room, allowing Marcus and his two armed guards to follow me in.

I walked over to the large vintage mahogany desk and prepared to sign away my entire life.

May you like

Marcus smiled triumphantly, stepping deeper into the room to watch my absolute defeat.

I suddenly slammed my hand down on a hidden red button concealed beneath the edge of the desk.
