Chapter 1 - The Invalid Deed

I watched the smug satisfaction slowly drain from my brother's face.
The cheap suit worn by the so-called buyer suddenly looked incredibly uncomfortable on his sweating frame.
Tessa lowered her designer sunglasses and glared at me with pure venom.
Brandon swallowed hard and took a shaky step toward me.
He asked what I meant about the deed being invalid.
I smiled and crossed my arms over my chest.
I explained that six months ago, I transferred the entire estate into a highly secure, irrevocable blind trust.
I told them that my personal signature no longer held any legal power over this land.
The document Brandon had stolen and forged was an outdated, useless piece of paper.
Brandon turned pale and looked desperately at the man in the navy suit.
He insisted that the title company had already cleared the paperwork yesterday morning.
I laughed again, wondering how my brother could be so incredibly naive.
I pulled my phone from my pocket and showed them the alert from my private security firm.
I explained that a legitimate title company would have hit a federal lock the moment they ran the parcel number.
The man in the suit began to back away toward his sleek black car parked on the gravel.
Tessa grabbed his arm and demanded to know where her three million dollars was.
The man violently shoved her hand away and adjusted his cheap tie.
He looked directly at me with eyes that were entirely devoid of human emotion.
He said he was not a real estate investor.
He told us he worked for a private syndicate that specialized in acquiring untraceable assets.
Brandon fell to his knees in the dirt, realizing he had not sold a house, but rather walked into a massive trap.
The man stated that his boss had already wired three million dollars to Tessa's offshore business account.
He coldly announced that his employers did not care about the legality of the deed.
They had paid for the property, and they were taking possession of it today.
I told him to leave my land before I called the local sheriff.
The man simply smirked and pulled a suppressed handgun from his jacket.
He pointed the weapon directly at my brother's chest.
He said the syndicate always collected their debts in either real estate or human blood.
Before he could pull the trigger, my phone began to ring loudly in my hand.
I glanced down at the screen and saw the caller ID belonged to my personal banker in the city.
May you like
I answered the call on speakerphone so everyone could hear the impending disaster.
My banker frantically yelled that someone had just initiated a total liquidation of my entire corporate portfolio.
