Chapter 4 - The Siege at the Farmhouse

The massive armored vehicles tore through my pristine wildflower fields, destroying everything in their path.
They skidded to a halt in a semicircle, completely surrounding the front courtyard of the farmhouse.
Dozens of men dressed in black tactical gear poured out of the SUVs, holding automatic rifles.
My private security team quickly formed a defensive perimeter around me, raising their own weapons.
The air was incredibly tense, filled with the smell of exhaust and crushed flowers.
I realized we were vastly outnumbered and outgunned by this ruthless criminal organization.
Brandon scrambled behind a large stone planter, covering his ears and weeping like a terrified child.
Tessa tried to run toward the tactical men, shouting that she was on their side.
One of the armed thugs carelessly shoved her to the ground with the butt of his rifle.
The front door of the lead SUV slowly opened, revealing a man who radiated pure danger.
He wore a tailored black suit and walked with a calm, terrifying elegance.
I knew immediately that this was Marcus, the notorious leader of the underground syndicate.
Marcus ignored my armed guards and walked directly up to the property line.
He politely removed his sunglasses and offered me a charming, yet deadly smile.
He apologized for the destruction of my garden, claiming he preferred to handle business peacefully.
I told him there was absolutely nothing peaceful about holding my dogs and my manager's daughter hostage.
Marcus chuckled softly and praised my fierce dedication to the people and animals I loved.
He said he had no interest in harming anyone if I simply cooperated with his demands.
He pulled a thick, leather-bound folder from his jacket and held it out toward me.
He demanded that I sign the trust override documents to legally transfer the estate to his holding company.
I firmly refused, stating that I would rather see the farmhouse burn to the ground than give it to him.
Marcus sighed heavily, feigning disappointment at my stubborn refusal to surrender.
He pulled a small radio from his pocket and pressed the transmission button.
He ordered his men to bring out the primary leverage they had acquired.
The rear doors of the last SUV opened, and two thugs dragged David, my property manager, into the dirt.
David was badly beaten, his face covered in bruises and his hands tied behind his back.
I screamed his name, feeling a surge of pure, unadulterated rage completely consume my soul.
Marcus pointed his weapon directly at David's head.

He calmly informed me that David's daughter was currently locked inside the old foster retreat barn on my property.
He smiled wickedly and added that the barn was currently wired with military-grade incendiary explosives.
