Chapter 9 - The Courtroom Battle

My father looked at me with cold, dead eyes as he tightened his grip on Ethan's small arm.

He calmly stated that I was going to hand over the lockbox, or I would never see my son again.

He had no idea the box was already safely in the hands of federal agents at Sarah's office.

I slowly raised my hands, stepping closer to him while trying to keep my voice perfectly steady.

I told him the box was hidden in the trunk of my car, lying to buy myself precious seconds.

My father stood up, dragging Ethan toward the front door to retrieve the supposed evidence.

As soon as he stepped onto the porch, police sirens completely shattered the quiet neighborhood.

Sarah had suspected my family might retaliate and had sent an unmarked police unit to watch my house.

Officers swarmed the lawn, drawing their weapons and ordering my father to release the child.

He dropped Ethan's arm, his arrogant demeanor instantly crumbling into absolute panic.

I rushed forward and pulled Ethan into a fiercely protective embrace.

The police handcuffed my father right there on the porch, reading him his rights.

The next morning, the courtroom was packed with tension as the final custody and criminal hearings began.

My mother sat alone at the defense table, looking completely devastated and pale.

Tyler had been arrested during the night by federal agents raiding the estate.

The judge watched the restored cloud video in absolute silence, shaking his head in disgust.

Sarah then presented the financial documents from the lockbox, linking the assault to the massive fraud cover-up.

My parents' high-priced lawyer tried to object, but the evidence was undeniably overwhelming.

To make matters worse for them, my corrupt ex-husband was dragged into the courtroom in handcuffs.

Sarah had uncovered wire transfers proving my parents paid him fifty thousand dollars to commit perjury.

The corrupt local police officer who tried to bury the initial report was also named in the federal indictment.

The judge slammed his gavel down, his face red with righteous anger at the sheer scale of the corruption.

He looked directly at my mother and told her she was a disgrace to the very concept of family.

I held my breath as the judge prepared to read his final, official ruling.
