Chapter 2 - The Hospital Room Threats

I stood frozen as the social worker explained she had to open a formal investigation against me.

The anonymous caller had claimed I pushed Ethan off the patio in a drunken rage.

I knew exactly who made that phone call.

My parents were actively trying to frame me to protect their precious Tyler.

I begged the social worker to talk to Ethan, promising he would tell her the truth about the steel rod.

She agreed, but informed me that I was not allowed in the room while she interviewed him.

I paced the hospital waiting room for what felt like an eternity.

When the social worker finally came out, her expression was unreadable.

She told me that Ethan refused to say a single word about how he got hurt.

My heart shattered because I knew Ethan was terrified of making his grandmother angry.

I rushed into the recovery room and found my son crying silently into his pillow.

He had a massive cast on his leg and looked smaller than ever in the hospital bed.

I held his hand and promised him that no one was going to hurt him again.

The door suddenly swung open, and my parents walked in uninvited.

Tyler was standing right behind them, looking completely bored by the whole situation.

My mother immediately told Ethan to stop crying because he was embarrassing the family.

I stepped between them and the bed, demanding they leave the room immediately.

My father stepped closer, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper.

He said I needed to drop the police report, or they would make sure I lost custody of Ethan forever.

Tyler smirked at me from the doorway, completely unbothered by the damage he had caused.

Before I could call for security, a uniformed police officer walked into the room.

I felt a surge of relief, thinking help had finally arrived.

The officer looked at my parents, smiled warmly, and shook my father's hand.

My father turned to me with a wicked grin and introduced the officer as his weekend golfing partner.
