Chapter 7 - The Shipping Yard

The cold wind howled aggressively off the dark ocean water.
I stood perfectly still as the red sniper laser hovered on my chest.
Elena hid behind a large metal crate a few yards behind me.
Heavy footsteps echoed on the wet pavement as Daniel stepped out of the shadows.
He was flanked by four massive men carrying tactical assault rifles.
Daniel was holding a terrified Leo tightly by his small jacket collar.
Leo cried out for me, but Daniel clamped a heavy hand over the boy's mouth.
My heart shattered seeing the pure fear in my son’s innocent eyes.
Daniel sneered and demanded that I hand over his daughter immediately.
I kept my hands firmly gripped on the handle of the modified stroller.
I told Daniel that he had to let Leo walk over to me first.
Daniel laughed cruelly and said I was in no position to make demands.
He proudly explained his grand master plan to everyone in the yard.
He said he had manufactured the entire baby swap to protect his own wealth.
He never loved me, and he only married me to gain access to my family's trust fund.
He planned to kill me and Elena tonight, dump our bodies in the ocean, and play the grieving widower on national television.
He unholstered a silver revolver from his belt and pointed it at my head.
He ordered me to step away from the stroller and prepare to die.
I looked Daniel dead in the eye and offered him a chilling smile.
I told him he really should have checked what was under the baby blanket.
I violently kicked the stroller over, ripping the pins out of the hidden grenades.

Thick, blinding white smoke instantly erupted into the damp night air.
The mercenaries began coughing violently and firing their rifles blindly into the fog.
