Chapter 7 - The Bloodline Curse

The horrific, unexpected revelation hit Maya like a massive physical blow directly to her chest.

Vanessa was her own half-sister, driven completely mad by decades of jealousy and hidden, toxic resentment.

Vanessa spat bitterly that their father had abandoned her mother in poverty while Maya grew up like a pampered princess.

She explained that she had infiltrated the pathetic syndicate, married that fool Richard, and waited patiently for the perfect moment to take everything.

Maya looked at Leo, whose innocent face was covered in tears, and knew she had to desperately stall for time.

Maya pleaded with her half-sister to take the ring, but to leave the innocent child out of their parents' terrible mistakes.

She slowly slipped the heavy orchid ring off her finger and tossed it gently onto the concrete pier.

The ring rolled slowly across the ground, stopping just a few inches away from Vanessa's expensive leather boots.

Vanessa smiled victoriously, finally releasing her tight, painful grip on Leo's small jacket.

Leo instantly sprinted across the pier, throwing his small, trembling arms fiercely around his mother's legs.

Maya shielded him entirely with her body, praying silently that Julian's secret backup plan was already in motion.

Vanessa bent down and picked up the ring, holding it triumphantly up to the gray morning light.

She coldly ordered her mercenaries to execute them both and throw their bodies into the freezing bay.

The armed men raised their automatic weapons, taking careful aim at Maya and her terrified son.

Suddenly, the deafening sound of a massive sniper rifle echoed from a rusted crane tower directly above them.

The lead mercenary dropped instantly, his heavy weapon clattering harmlessly to the wet concrete.

Julian emerged from the thick fog on the opposite side of the pier, holding a heavy, military-grade assault rifle.

Julian roared that the game was officially over, providing fierce, unrelenting covering fire for Maya and her son.

Absolute chaos erupted on the docks as the remaining mercenaries frantically fired blindly into the dense mist.

Vanessa panicked completely, clutching the ring tightly and sprinting toward a heavily armored yacht docked nearby.

But as she stepped onto the metal gangway, the orchid ring suddenly began to emit a piercing, high-pitched alarm.
