Chapter 7 - The Frame Job

"They set us up!" Eleanor screamed over the wailing sound of the approaching police sirens.

Richard had known they would track down the doctor, and he had orchestrated the perfect frame job.

"We have to wipe everything we touched," Emily ordered, her survival instincts kicking into high gear.

They frantically used their sweater sleeves to wipe down the front door handle and the coffee table.

Dr. Harrison stopped moving completely, his lifeless eyes staring blankly at the vaulted ceiling.

The police cruisers skidded to a halt on the gravel driveway outside.

"Out the back door, right now," Eleanor whispered, grabbing Emily's hand tightly.

They sprinted through the massive kitchen and burst out the back patio doors leading toward the private beach.

Heavy footsteps pounded on the front porch, followed by the loud, authoritative shouting of local police officers.

Eleanor and Emily threw themselves down the steep wooden stairs leading to the sandy shoreline.

They ran wildly along the edge of the freezing water, using the thick morning fog to mask their desperate escape.

They managed to hike three miles down the rocky coast until they reached a public state park.

Eleanor pulled her cell phone out of her pocket to call Arthur for an emergency extraction.

The screen of her phone suddenly flashed bright red with an urgent banking notification.

Every single one of her corporate, personal, and offshore bank accounts had been officially frozen by the federal government.
