Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

The doctor handed me an eviction notice signed by the head of the Volkov syndicate.
The Russians had bought the property out from under us to legally bypass the neutral territory rules.
We were entirely surrounded by their men, and we had no more places to run.
I walked into Clara’s recovery room, where she was awake but incredibly weak.
My mother was sitting beside her, resting in a comfortable medical chair.
I told them both that I was going to walk out the front door and surrender to the Volkovs.

“If you walk out there, we all die anyway,” Clara argued, wincing in pain.
She told me she had memorized the Volkovs' financial routing numbers during her time undercover with her father.
She pointed to a secure computer terminal in the corner of the medical room.
Clara hacked into the Russian syndicate’s offshore accounts in a matter of minutes.
She set up an automated transfer to drain their entire empire's wealth into anonymous charities.
“If they kill us, they lose billions,” Clara smiled weakly.
I took the printed confirmation receipt and walked out to the front lobby to face the Russian mob boss.
I slid the paper across the reception desk, explaining the dead man's switch Clara had activated.
The Volkov boss sneered, refusing to believe a mere maid could dismantle his financial empire.

He raised his gun to shoot me in the head.
Suddenly, every single cell phone belonging to the Russian mercenaries in the room simultaneously pinged with a zero-balance alert.
