Chapter 4 - The Concrete Jungle

The deafening roar of the tank’s engine echoed violently through the enclosed concrete space, shaking dust from the ceiling.
Preston didn't have even a single second to marvel at the permanent, absolute strength returning to his newly healed legs.
He scooped Julian up forcefully and sprinted with terrifying, superhuman speed toward a row of heavily armored corporate SUVs.
A blinding flash of pure orange fire erupted from the tank's cannon, instantly vaporizing the concrete pillar they had just been standing behind.
The sheer concussive force of the massive explosion threw Preston aggressively through the air, sending him crashing violently into the side of a black vehicle.
He groaned in heavy pain, completely shocked to realize his spine had easily absorbed an impact that should have instantly killed a normal man.
“The genetic transfer didn't just heal your broken bones, Preston,” Julian shouted over the deafening ringing in their ears.
“It completely reinforced your skeletal structure with the exact same military-grade density that Marcus engineered into my body.”
Preston furiously smashed his fist into the reinforced window of the SUV, entirely shattering the bulletproof glass with a single, brutal punch.
He reached inside, unlocked the heavy door, and aggressively shoved Julian into the passenger seat before jumping behind the wheel.
With a massive surge of adrenaline, Preston violently ripped the electronic ignition wires from the steering column and sparked them together.
The massive V8 engine roared powerfully to life just as three of Marcus’s black tactical vans aggressively swarmed into the lower garage.
Heavily armed mercenaries leaped violently from the moving vans, unleashing a torrential hail of automatic gunfire at the fleeing SUV.
Preston violently slammed his foot directly onto the gas pedal, sending the heavy vehicle violently crashing through the wooden toll barrier.
They tore recklessly out of the underground structure and launched completely airborne into the rain-slicked city streets.
Preston navigated the chaotic midnight traffic with absolute, deadly precision, his heavily enhanced reflexes processing the dangerous environment perfectly.
“Where exactly are we going?” Julian yelled, tightly gripping the leather dashboard as they violently swerved around a massive city bus.
“We are going to my secure safe house on the absolute edge of the city limits,” Preston replied coldly.
“It is entirely off the corporate grid, and it holds the emergency servers we need to completely expose Marcus to the federal government.”
They drove in incredibly tense silence for twenty agonizing minutes, expertly losing the pursuing mercenary vehicles in a maze of narrow alleyways.
Preston finally pulled the severely damaged, bullet-riddled SUV into a hidden underground bunker cleverly disguised as an abandoned warehouse.
He quickly ushered the exhausted boy inside, instantly locking the heavy titanium blast doors behind them with a biometric scan.
The safe house was a massive technological marvel, completely lined with heavily armed weapon racks and glowing server towers.
Preston immediately rushed to the main computer terminal, furiously typing complex security codes to access the global broadcast network.
He intended to leak every single piece of classified data regarding Marcus’s highly illegal genetic experiments directly to the international press.
Suddenly, the massive wall of television screens in the safe house violently flickered to life on their own accord.
Every single news channel in the entire country was aggressively broadcasting a breaking news alert featuring Preston’s face.
The news anchor’s voice echoed terribly through the bunker, announcing that billionaire Preston Vance had gone completely insane and violently murdered twelve innocent party guests.
Worse still, the terrifying broadcast boldly claimed that Preston had brutally kidnapped a terminally ill child from a local hospital to use as a hostage.

As Preston stared at the screen in absolute horror, the heavy titanium blast doors behind him suddenly began to glow with a blinding, melting heat.
Someone was actively burning through the impenetrable vault from the outside.
