Chapter 2 - The Blue Balloon

I stared at the glowing screen of my phone until my eyes burned.
The woman in the photograph was not a random stranger.
She was Isabella, the woman my mother-in-law had introduced at Thanksgiving as a distant family cousin.
I zoomed in on the picture and noticed they were standing on the balcony of a luxury penthouse.
It was not just any luxury penthouse.
It was one of the exclusive properties owned by my very own real estate firm.
My husband was hiding his pregnant mistress in a building that I secretly owned.
I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes before my daughters could see me crying in the rearview mirror.
I started the engine and drove away from the hacienda, leaving the toxic Villaseñor family behind in the dust.
I did not drive to the modest three-bedroom house Andrés and I shared.
I drove directly to the secure, private estate I had purchased under a corporate shell company three years ago.
The heavy iron gates opened silently as my car approached the hidden property.
I carried my sleeping daughters into the massive house and tucked them into warm, comfortable beds.
Once they were safely asleep, I went into my private home office and locked the heavy oak door.
I opened my laptop and bypassed three layers of security to access my company's financial servers.
I needed to see exactly how Andrés was paying for Isabella's luxurious lifestyle.
For years, I had allowed Andrés to manage our joint personal accounts to make him feel like the man of the house.
I pulled up the bank records from the last six months and felt a wave of pure nausea wash over me.
He had not just been paying her rent with his salary.
He had completely emptied Sofía and Valentina's college savings accounts.
Every single peso we had supposedly saved for our daughters was completely gone.
He had transferred the money directly to a private medical clinic to cover the costs of Isabella's premium maternity care.
He was literally stealing from his own daughters to fund the birth of the son he always wanted.
My sadness instantly vanished, replaced entirely by a cold, calculating rage.
I picked up my phone and called my head attorney, Mateo, despite it being past midnight.
Mateo answered on the first ring, completely alert and ready for instructions.
I ordered him to quietly initiate the collection process on the promissory note Andrés had signed.
Mateo hesitated for a moment before speaking in a low, serious tone.
He warned me that if we activated that specific note, we would trigger a massive federal audit.
He explained that Andrés had used my social security number to guarantee the loan without my consent.
I smiled a bitter smile into the darkness of my office.
I told Mateo that I wanted the audit because I wanted Andrés to burn in federal court.
Before Mateo could reply, the security alarms on my computer suddenly began blaring with a deafening siren.
A red warning flashed across my screen, indicating a massive unauthorized withdrawal from my primary corporate holding account.

Someone was currently trying to wire twelve million pesos out of Horizonte Capital.
The IP address of the hacker was originating directly from the hacienda where Andrés was still partying.
