Chapter 3 - The Desperate Escape

The taller assassin shoved me violently against the cold brick wall.
I gasped for air as his heavy leather glove crushed my windpipe.
Tony did not freeze in terror like a normal restaurant manager would.
He dropped low to the wet pavement and swept the legs of the second assassin with brutal efficiency.
I used the momentary distraction to drive my knee directly into the groin of the man choking me.
The assassin groaned and dropped his weapon into a deep puddle of rainwater.
I grabbed a heavy metal trash can lid and smashed it relentlessly against his skull.
Tony managed to disarm his opponent and delivered a devastating punch to the man's jaw.
We sprinted down the narrow alleyway while the sound of suppressed gunfire hissed past our ears.
A bullet shattered a brick just inches away from my face.
We dove into Tony's battered civilian truck and he aggressively slammed his foot onto the gas pedal.
The tires screeched against the wet asphalt as we wildly careened into the busy city traffic.
My chest felt like it was being crushed in a massive industrial vise.
Tony drove frantically through a maze of backstreets until we reached a decaying industrial district.
He kicked open the rusty door of an abandoned warehouse and dragged me inside.
A rugged man with a thick beard and a white medical apron rushed over with a trauma kit.
He drew a sample of my blood and ran it through a portable chemical analyzer.
The doctor turned entirely pale when the digital results flashed on his small monitor.
He looked me directly in the eyes with a grim and terrifying expression.
He told me the poison was a highly restricted synthetic neurotoxin designed to mimic total organ failure.

I asked him how much time I had left before the damage became completely irreversible.
He slowly placed a hand on my shoulder and said I had exactly twelve hours to live.
