Chapter 1 - The Breaking Point

I did not shout when I saw my mother torturing my pregnant wife.

I did not throw anything across the room.

I simply walked over to the kitchen sink and grabbed my mother's wrist with a grip so tight I felt her bones shift.

She gasped in shock and immediately let go of Anna's hair.

Anna collapsed against the counter, sobbing uncontrollably and clutching her swollen belly.

I pulled my mother away from my wife and shoved her roughly toward the hallway.

She stumbled backward, staring at me with wide, disbelieving eyes.

"What are you doing to me?" my mother demanded, trying to sound like the victim.

"Pack your bags right now," I told her, my voice dropping to a dangerous, icy whisper.

She let out a dramatic, offended laugh.

"You are throwing your own mother out into the cold at three in the morning over this pathetic girl?" she asked.

"You have exactly ten minutes to get out of my house before I call the police and have you arrested for assault," I replied without blinking.

The arrogant smile completely vanished from her face.

She realized I was not playing a game, and the obedient son she had manipulated for years was entirely dead.

She stormed down the hallway, cursing under her breath while throwing her clothes into a suitcase.

I grabbed a warm towel from the dryer and gently wrapped it around Anna's shivering shoulders.

I held my crying wife tightly, promising her that this nightmare was finally over.

Ten minutes later, the front door slammed aggressively as my mother dragged her suitcase onto the porch.

I walked to the doorway to lock the deadbolt behind her, making sure she could never return.

My mother stopped at the edge of the driveway and turned around to look at me with a chilling, wicked grin.

"You think you are protecting your family, David," she yelled through the freezing night air.

"But you have absolutely no idea who the real father of that baby is."
