Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Pills

The entire ballroom seemed to lose all its oxygen in a single second.
The silence that followed her words was so absolute, it felt deafening.
I stared at my sister, my brain violently refusing to process what she had just said.
"What did you just say?" I whispered, my voice completely hollow.
Ryan charged at my sister, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her violently.
"Shut your mouth right now!" Ryan roared, his face twisted in sheer panic.
Mark rushed forward and tackled Ryan to the ground, pinning the groom to the polished hardwood floor.
My father rushed over to me, holding me up as my legs completely gave out beneath me.
"Tell me what he did to my baby!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face.
My sister crawled away from the men fighting on the floor, her white dress smeared with dirt.
She looked at me, showing absolutely no remorse for the horror she was unleashing.
"Ryan didn't want a fifth child tying him down financially," she confessed coldly.
"He bought an illegal abortifacient online and crushed it into your morning vitamin capsules."
The room spun wildly around me.
My miscarriage wasn't a tragic medical accident.
It was a deliberate, calculated murder committed by the man who was supposed to love me.
A profound, blinding rage ignited inside my chest, overriding every ounce of rational thought I possessed.
I pulled away from my father and sprinted toward Ryan, who was still pinned on the ground by Mark.
I didn't care about the wedding guests, the cameras, or the consequences.
I grabbed a heavy glass vase from the nearest floral arrangement and smashed it directly across Ryan's face.
Ryan screamed in agony as the glass shattered, blood instantly pouring from his forehead.
Before I could strike him again, the wail of police sirens suddenly echoed through the country club windows.
Two uniformed police officers burst through the ballroom doors, their hands resting on their weapons.
Ryan looked up at the cops, his bloody face twisting into a malicious, triumphant smirk.

"Help me, officers!" Ryan screamed, pointing a shaking finger directly at me.
"My crazy ex-wife is trying to murder me, and I have a restraining order against her!"
